5 Reasons Fundraising Teams Thrive

Putting together a fundraising team that thrives is harder than it seems. While everyone has good intentions, and wants to do the right thing, sometimes the pressures and stress of the new non-profit cause an abnormal amount of stress and can cause teams to lose productivity. Here are four solutions to increasing productivity, happiness and donations for your non-profit.

1.     Lead with a Cross-functional team Building a team that is not only front of house and out there promoting your non-profit is good, but building a team that supports back-end processes is critical to scale growth. Sometimes, this means outsourcing several positions in the beginning to help drive incremental growth rapidly. Often, leaders of non-profits do not have the technical expertise, legal expertise or accounting expertise to grow a scalable non-profit. Therefore, outsourcing these needs can help you focus on what really matters.
2.     Creating a strong infrastructure Create a strong infrastructure with scalable technologies is key to delivering on your promise to change the world. Ensuring your website talks to your donor database and that your payment processor online updates your offline databases is pivotal to having good donor relations. Further, to scale your non-profit these are essential elements.
3.     Establishing Personas and Data architecture This may seem like two disparate functions but really, they are interdependent. For example, knowing who your donor is and how they like to be communicated with on what platform is really key to driving the donor behavior you desire. Next, these very personas dictate your field management and data architecture in your systems. For example, in the diagram below, you will see Millennials prefer more frequent email communications from companies whereas Baby boomers want less frequent email communications.

4.     Creating Scalability
Knowing how to build systems and processes that are scalable if you want to achieve your five-year plan for your non-profit. Ensuring you have the right technologies, vendor management, database systems and other such concerns are something a good technology company can assist with. Knowing how to create scalable systems should not be taken lightly as this can impede growth down the road. Plus, by taking time to weigh in on scalability early on, your team will be better supported to focus on what really matters, driving contributions.

Don’t be afraid to ask the experts, whether it is an accounting expert or technical expert, get the help you need early on it will save you thousands down the road. Here’s to growing your non-profit.
