How to Monetize your Non-Profit

Monetizing your non-profit is key to fuel future growth. But, how do you do that when your focus is on driving the mission forward? There are ways to extend your reach and support that growth if done right. Here are five ways to monetize your non-profit.
  1. Create a CRM system that supports the entire donor lifecycle. Choosing a CRM that specifically helps you monetize the donor lifecycle is key to making a difference. For example, does your CRM system have triggers set up at the end of the year to capitalize on those that need a tax break donation? Is your CRM system set up to gather further data points on your donors for personalization and enhanced communications?
  2. Use events to drive new donor relationships. Create engaging events that involves donors into the community. This, in turn, creates stickiness and helps re-inforce donor on-going contributions. Is your back-office set up to track these events and the donations that come from such events for event financial reconciling?
  3. Subscription donors…are you capitalizing on the web using recurring donation schedules? Of course, to do this your back-office must be set up to support recurring donations. It is a good idea to ask for help in this area if recurring donations are important to your non-profit as a central strategy.
  4. Donor referral program. How do you elegantly ask for donor referrals from your existing donor database? Is it possible to transform the donors into advocates who drive new donors to your website because they believe in the mission? What if your donor advocates posted to Facebook and tweeted regularly for you at no cost? Is your website and CRM set up to handle this and tie the referrers to the original donor?
  5. Reduce operating costs. One way to drive more operating capital is to reduce operating costs. One way to do this is to evaluate all your systems used to manage the non-profit and look for economies of scale. Having scalable systems that integrate well with each other can help streamline growth and accelerate the time to reach goals.

There are many ways to use technology to streamline operations and monetize the non-profit. Sometimes it is helpful to talk with someone in the IT space that specializes in non-profit technology.
